AbstractEcological Transitions in the California Current Ecosystem: CCE-LTER Phase II: (1) Process cruises: Revelle-class vessel, in 2011, 2012, and 2014: Conduct Lagrangian, water-parcel tracking cruises to measure nutrient fluxes and plankton growth, grazing, predation, and sinking terms in different mesoscale features in the California Current System. Interdisciplinary team of biological, chemical, and physical oceanographers. Each of these 3 cruises needs to be in the early summer/late spring period of strongest mesoscale gradients in the region. Each will be of 30 days duration. (2) Augmented CalCOFI: New Horizon-class vessel, in each of 6 years (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016): 2 supplemental days added to 4 CalCOFI cruises per year for additional sampling of microbial, other plankton, and fish populations. Work to be scheduled and coordinated with CalCOFI cruises. (3) Mooring servicing: New Horizon-class vessel, in each of 6 years (2011-2016): 4 days per year for servicing CCE interdisciplinary biogeochemical moorings.
