Abstract | Collaborative Research: Using Controlled Aerosol Perturbations to Improve Understanding of Cloud Responses for Climate: This project will use controlled aerosol perturbations to improve understanding of cloud responses for climate. The project includes atmospheric measurements on board the NPS/Caltech CIRPAS Twin Otter aircraft during July 2011, with more than 100 flight hours available for measuring aerosol below and in cloud. The ship will be used to create a pattern of emissions of smoke from smoke generators mounted on the vessel. In addition, we will have two scientists on board to take meteorological measurements and observations at the surface (in addition to monitoring sea surface temperature) for coordination with the aircraft and initializing meteorological models. |
